| Named for Lady Clive (1787 - 1866), sometime Duchess of Northumberland, the genus Clivia is a small plant family, comprising only six species, all of which are endemic to southern Africa. Clivias are all evergreen “bulbous” plants ("bulbous" as in red hot poker or leek; not as in daffodil) that are valued as much for the architectural qualities of the luxuriant foliage as for their flowers. They make extremely robust plants that grow well in shade and are also very long-lived: this combination makes them ideal plants for the house or cool greenhouse | |||||||
